Fancy a Break During Assessment Week?

Assessment season can feel intense. When deadlines stack up and revision takes over, it’s easy to forget to pause. But taking short, intentional breaks can make a real difference to how you feel and how you perform. That’s where “Fancy a Break?” comes in.

During assessment week, we’re inviting you to step away from your studies for a little while and join us for a calm, welcoming break space designed with your wellbeing in mind.

Why take a break?

Giving yourself time to pause isn’t time wasted — it’s an important part of staying well during busy periods. “Fancy a Break?” is all about helping you:

  • Switch off from assessment stress
Whether you’re revising, writing or juggling multiple deadlines, it can be hard to slow your thoughts. Our sessions give you permission to stop, breathe and take a mental reset before heading back to your work.
  • Refuel and refocus
We’ll have a range of hot and cold drinks available, along with biscuits and fresh fruit. A small snack and a change of scenery can go a long way in helping you feel more energised and ready to concentrate again.
  • Support your wellbeing
Stepping into a relaxed space, even briefly, can help improve your mood and reduce feelings of overwhelm. “Fancy a Break?” is designed to help you feel more balanced during a demanding time in the academic calendar.

What’s happening at Fancy a Break?

During each session, you’re welcome to drop in and take part in a range of low‑pressure, calming activities. We’ll have things like colouring, puzzles and games available, perfect if you want to keep your hands busy while giving your brain a rest.

You can also simply sit with a drink, enjoy a quiet moment, or chat with other students who are in the same boat. These sessions offer a friendly, informal space where you can feel supported and reminded that you’re not alone during assessment season.

Members of the Student Support and Wellbeing team will be present throughout the sessions. If you have questions, are unsure where to find support, or just want to talk something through, they’ll be there to help and to signpost useful services if needed.

When and where

Fancy a Break?” runs during assessment week, Tuesday 5th May to Friday 8th May, from 1pm–2pm in firstpoint.

There’s no need to book — just drop in when you can, take a breather, and head back to your studies feeling a little more refreshed.

We’d love to see you there. Looking after your wellbeing during assessments isn’t an extra, it’s an essential part of getting through the semester.
