Fancy a Cuppa? Let’s Chat This Time to Talk Day – Because Your Mental Health Matters

Picture this: it’s a chilly February afternoon, you’ve just come out of a lecture or seminar feeling a bit overwhelmed, and all you really want is a hot drink and someone who actually listens without judging. Sound familiar?

That’s exactly why Time to Talk Day on Thursday 5 February 2026 is such a big deal. Run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, it’s the nation’s biggest annual push to get people talking openly about mental health. The whole point? To break the silence, reduce stigma, and remind everyone that a simple conversation can change lives – or at least make someone’s day a little less heavy.

This year, the campaign is encouraging us to “brave the big talk” – those chats about mental health that might still feel a bit unspoken or awkward. Whether it’s sharing how stressed deadlines make you feel, admitting you’re struggling to adjust to uni life, or just checking in with a mate – every conversation counts.

And the best part? Sometimes the most powerful talks happen over a cup of tea (or coffee, hot chocolate… we’re not fussy). And that’s where our “Fancy a Cuppa?” event comes in – perfectly timed to tie in with Time to Talk Day!

What is “Fancy a Cuppa?”
It’s your regular chilled-out drop-in session every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-2pm in firstpoint at the Peirson Study and Guidance Centre (St John’s Campus). Free hot drinks, biscuits, puzzles, colouring sheets – and most importantly, friendly faces who are genuinely up for a chat.

On Time to Talk Day itself (Thursday 5 February), we’ll be giving the session a special Time to Talk theme. Come along to:

  • Grab a free cuppa and a snack
  • Chat informally with Student Wellbeing Champions and staff – they’re trained to listen without judgement and can point you towards extra support if you need it
  • Meet new people, make friends, or just take a breather in a welcoming space
  • Join in light activities while conversations flow naturally (no pressure to “talk deep” if you’re not ready)

It’s the ideal, low-key way to get involved in Time to Talk Day. No booking needed – just turn up between 1-2pm. Everyone’s welcome, whether you’re feeling great, a bit meh, or really finding things tough right now. So this Time to Talk Day, why not take that first step over a warm drink? Swing by “Fancy a Cuppa?” and see how easy (and nice) it can feel to talk about what really matters.
