FIRSTPOINT’S FIVE POINTS ABOUT firstpoint…

Every Monday, firstpoint publishes five points about a topic related to life at university. This week, is our final “firstpoint five” of the academic year, and we’d like to thank you for following our blog and remind you how firstpoint can help you during studies – don’t forget we’re still here all summer for advice and guidance…

POINT ONE:  HOW YOU CAN GET IN TOUCH WITH FIRSTPOINT…

For our last firstpoint five blog of the academic year, we’d like to remind our students that we’re here to be your first point of contact, whatever your question. We offer guidance on accessing specialist support at university and provide information that will be useful throughout your studies, helping you get the most out of your time here at the University of Worcester.

You can contact us in a variety of way – email us at firstpoint@worc.ac.uk, give us a call on 01905 542551 or pop in and see us in the Peirson Study and Guidance Centre. Our opening hours can be found on the firstpoint webpages.

POINT TWO:  SUPPORTING YOU TO ACCESS STUDENT SERVICES…

The Student Services department is made up of specialist teams who are here to help you make the most of your time at university by providing advice, guidance, or extra support. You can access these teams and advisers through firstpoint, but if you know which team you want to speak with, you can also contact them directly.

firstpoint can help you to arrange appointments with our Money Advice Service, the Disability and Dyslexia Service, the Counselling and Mental Health practitioners, or our Student Wellbeing Advisers.

We can also provide you with information about the Programme Advisory Service, the International Student Advisers, or our dedicated Careers Advisers and more! We can even help you to find out how to get in touch with wider university departments, the Students Union and your Personal Academic Tutor, just contact us with any concerns or questions and we’ll make sure you get access to the right support.

POINT THREE:  ASK US ANY QUESTION…

If you’re not sure what to ask or don’t know where to start, come and ask firstpoint, we’re here to help!

firstpoint is where you can come to pick up your Student ID card, present your DBS certificate or collect your pre-ordered parking permit, but we can also provide a wide range of information and general advice on university life!

If you need to talk through mitigating circumstances, find your way around campus, need proof of student status, or want to know how to arrange adjustments in exams then speak to firstpoint.  If you would like to discuss any pastoral issues which are affecting your time at university, we’re here to help.

The firstpoint webpage offers easy quick links to the most popular enquiries of the month, and dedicated sections for staff information and guidance for parents and guardians. Our handy firstpoint A-Z also covers an extensive range of topics which you might find helpful as a starting point, but please do get in touch if you would like to talk this through with a member of the firstpoint team.

POINT FOUR:  SUBSCRIBE TO OUR BLOG…

Did you know that you can subscribe to the firstpoint blog, where you’ll have easy access to up-to-date information and news right across the year, straight to your email account.

Our firstpoint fives, published every Monday, support you right through the academic year, offering five weekly top tips on the key topics of the term. Teams right across student services will also post regular updates with news and events such as Fancy a Cuppa dates, Careers and Employability workshops and Library Services events

POINT FIVE: HOW TO GIVE FEEDBACK…

If you’ve received help and advice from firstpoint that you’d like to shout about, you can now provide feedback on our brand-new Student Services Feedback Survey. We’re always looking to improve our service and aim to provide the best support possible to our student and staff body, so please let us know if you’ve received exceptional support from a member of the team, or if you have suggestions on how else student services can support you.

Our firstpoint five blogs will start again next month, when we look forward to welcoming back our current students and saying hello to new starters for the new academic year!  In the meantime, firstpoint remains open throughout the summer, so please do get in touch if we can help.
