Now that December has arrived, the University of Worcester’s Christmas trees are up across campuses, and the Student Support and Wellbeing team has taken pride in crafting unique handmade decorations. Our theme this year has been “The Gift of Kindness at Christmas”.
Each decoration on the trees have been handmade with care and represents our aim to show a little kindness to those around us.
As you explore the displays at St John’s Reception, firstpoint, and in the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson building, you’ll find gift bags labelled with words like “Charity” and “Support”, small presents tied with bows that remind us of the joy of giving, and gift tags with Christmas kindness promises written by students and staff.
They serve as reminders that kindness can take many forms: a warm smile, a helping hand, or a heartfelt compliment. These acts don’t require money, only our time and attention. In a world often focused on material gifts, we invite you to remember that the most meaningful presents don’t always come with a price tag.
This year, we are proud to also have a tree at Worcester Cathedral as part of their festive Christmas Tree Festival. Our decorations symbolise the importance of kindness and community spirit, and our role in the wider society in which we live.
The Christmas Tree Festival will be open to visit from Thursday 5 December 2024 until Monday 6 January 2025 (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). It’s free entry, Find out more about opening times and their special Quiet Hours on the Cathedral’s webpages: https://www.worcestercathedral.org.uk/whats-on/christmas-tree-festival-2024
We hope that as you admire each of the trees, you reflect for a moment how you might contribute to this spirit of giving and think about your own acts of kindness.
If you want to add your own decoration to the firstpoint tree, then extra gift tags available.
Write your promise and hang it up for us to see!
By working together, we seek to create a warmer, more inclusive University community where everyone can thrive this holiday season and beyond.
