FIRSTPOINT’S FIVE POINTS ABOUT FIRSTPOINT & STUDENT SERVICES…

Every Monday, firstpoint publishes five points about a topic related to life at university. This week, we’d like to say Welcome to Worcester and introduce ourselves… Hello, we’re firstpoint, your student helpdesk team…

POINT ONE:  ASK FIRSTPOINT

At firstpoint, we’re here to help you access information and support during your studies. If you’ve got a question, whatever it might be, we’re a good place to start.

  • You can visit us on the St John’s Campus, in the Peirson Study and Guidance Centre
  • Phone us on 01905 542551
  • You’ll also find lots of helpful information (including our opening hours) on the firstpoint webpages.

Sometimes you might have a question that you’re not sure whether to ask, or you may not be sure who to ask… Don’t worry, we’re here to listen. If we can’t answer your question ourselves, we’ll always do our best to find the correct department for you.

POINT TWO:  LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF

Alongside the exciting opportunities at university, it’s not unusual that you may also experience some difficulties and challenges during a degree. There is lots of support available through dedicated Student Services teams, so please let us know about any concerns or worries which you have, so that we can help you get the right help and advice.

There may be times when you need some advice or information but are not sure exactly what to ask; that’s what firstpoint is here for. We can help you figure out what it is you need to know. We can also help you contact other services at the University, such as Programme Advice and ever important Wellbeing and Personal Support to guide you through university life.

If you want to find out a bit more information before speaking with us, you can look at our firstpoint Homepage where you can also find an induction video.  If you are looking for something specific, check out our A-Z webpages to help you navigate our site.

POINT THREE:  BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

firstpoint can book appointments with a variety of services at the University, or support you to understand how you can book these yourself– simply contact us if you need to see an Adviser from:

Do you have questions about your accommodation or course options? Are you thinking of broadening your horizons and studying abroad and want to find out more?  firstpoint can also help you to contact the teams who can help answer your questions and take the next steps.

You’ll find more information about who can help and how to speak to support teams on our Who Can Help webpages, but if you’re not too sure where to start or who to ask, come and have a chat with us at firstpoint and we’ll help you work it out.

POINT FOUR:  TRAVEL & TRANSPORT

If you need to find out about travelling to or around campus, borrowing a bike, getting a rail card, student bus travel or collecting a parking permit, we have lots of information. To find out more, just get in touch or look at the Transport section of our webpage for more ideas and how to save money on travelling to university.

Everyone is different and if you’re concerned about getting around, AccessAble is an on-line guide which gives the detailed information you need to work out if a place is going to be accessible to you.

POINT FIVE: WHAT ARE FIRSTPOINT’S FIVE POINTS?

Every Monday, firstpoint publishes five top tips – or points – on a topic about life here at the University of Worcester. These blogs are often timed with important information you might need to know for that month, such as module selections, applying for your student finance or upcoming events you can book.

We cover a wide range of information across the academic year which answer some popular questions we are often asked.  They are also designed to help you understand more about what support is available to help you as you navigate your course.

You can subscribe to this blog so that you can keep up-to-date and stay informed throughout the academic year – You’ll receive weekly updates to your email address with the top tips for that week!

We wish you all the best for your studies and hope to speak to you soon!
