University life can be exciting, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. Between assignments, deadlines, and social life, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture—your goals, values, and the things that keep you grounded.
That’s where our Tree of Life crafting activity comes in; this special creative workshop, which is being run in conjunction with our weekly Craft and Cuppa Club, is all about self-expression, mindfulness, and motivation—giving you the chance to reflect on your journey in a fun and relaxing way.
What is the Tree of Life?
The Tree of Life is more than just an artistic project—it’s a visual representation of who you are and where you’re headed. Using simple materials like coloured pens, paper, and markers, you’ll design your own tree, with each part symbolising different aspects of your life:
- Roots – Your foundation: family, culture, past experiences, or anything that grounds you.
- Trunk – Your strengths and skills that help you grow.
- Branches – Your hobbies, passions, or areas of growth.
- Leaves – Your aspirations, dreams, and future goals.
Below are some examples of how others have drawn their trees:

There’s no right or wrong way to design your tree—this is your story, and your creativity is what makes it unique. You could add symbols from your favourite hobby, or a background that represents your dream holiday destination.
This workshop is a chance to express yourself through art, creating a meaningful piece that reflects your identity and aspirations. It’s also an opportunity to set intentions and think about your personal goals and values in a creative way. Plus, crafting is always more fun with good company—come along and meet like-minded students who share an interest in self-expression and creativity!
Event Details
You’ll find us in The Hangar, where our regular Craft and Cuppa Club runs every Wednesday. But on Wednesday 26th March we’re extending for an extra hour! Join us 1pm – 3pm.
All materials will be provided, plus free refreshments – tea, coffee and biscuits! Just bring yourself and your creativity!
Take Your Tree Home!
Once you’ve finished your design, take it with you as a reminder of your goals and strengths. Whether you hang it in your room, keep it in your notebook, or revisit it later in the year, your Tree of Life can serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement throughout your university journey.
Ideas to Take It Further
If you’d like to develop your Tree of Life even more, here are some ideas:
- Journaling Connection – Write a few sentences about what each part of your tree represents and why it’s important to you.
- Collaborative Trees – Work with friends to create a shared tree, representing your collective experiences.
- Future Growth – Add to your tree over time—update your leaves and branches as your aspirations evolve!
This is your chance to pause, reflect, and create something truly personal. We’d love to see you there!
