Time to Talk Day is all about creating supportive communities by having conversations with family, friends, or colleagues about mental health. We all have mental health and by talking about it we can support ourselves and others.
Did you know that 1 in 4 of us will deal with a mental health issue at some point this year? That’s a huge proportion of our student community. And with everything going on these days, like cost of living, balancing study and deadlines, plus commitments to family and friends, taking care of our mental health can feel even tougher.
So, what can we do about all this? Sometimes it’s easy to just brush it off, pretend we’re okay, right? But the truth is, talking about how we’re feeling is really important for our overall well-being.
We all deserve to feel comfortable chatting about mental health whenever we need to. When we talk openly about it, it helps break down the stigma and makes everything less awkward. Plus, it creates spaces where people feel okay asking for help when they need it most.
Together, by having honest conversations, we can create a community at our university that is strong, resilient, and where everyone’s mental health matters.
Today, in firstpoint, we are dedicating our “Fancy a Cuppa?” event to Time to Talk Day. Student Life Advisers and Student Wellbeing Champions will be available between 1pm and 2pm, offering hot drinks, biscuits and an opportunity to talk. Let’s start a conversation. We look forward to seeing you there!
