UCAS Convention on campus this Thursday

This is a reminder that the annual Hereford and Worcester UCAS Convention will take place at the University of Worcester Arena on Thursday 19th March 2015. This is a very large event with over 4,200 visitors attending from schools across both counties. We will be welcoming exhibitors from across the UK, representing more than 130 Higher Education institutions, as well as our own.

Areas around the University of Worcester Arena and the Riverside Building will be exceptionally busy during the set-up times on Wednesday 18th March and the day of the Convention, Thursday 19th March 2015.

The Exhibitor Hall will be located in the main hall of the University Arena, while seminars for visitors will be taking place at Riverside. Please note that the Social Learning Space at Riverside will be closed for students from 8am until 2pm on Thursday as this will be used for the Convention.

In order to minimise disruption for colleagues and students we have made the following arrangements:

Traffic Management – Thursday 19th March:

Please be aware that access through the Severn Gate (Hylton Road) will be for coaches and minibuses attending the Convention. Any other traffic will need to enter the campus through the Malvern Gate.

Car park closures for the event:

– Car park M (long stay), St John’s campus

Car park M (long stay) will be partly closed on Wednesday 18th March and fully closed on the Thursday, 19th March 2015.

– Riverside and Arena car parks

The car park next to the Riverside Building and the car park behind the Arena will be partly closed during the day on Wednesday, 18th March 2015 and will be fully closed from 9pm on Wednesday and all day Thursday, 19th March 2015.

All other car parks at the St John’s campus, the Moors car park (permit holders only) and Coppertops will remain open. To access Coppertops, turn right out of the Malvern Gate on to Oldbury Road and continue to the bottom of the hill. Coppertops is on the left (WR2 6AS).

During these closures, there will be a number of other parking options available for students, including:

  • Students and staff with parking permits are welcome to park in any other University Car Park when Car Park M is closed. This includes Car Park A (the short stay Car Park near St John’s Main Reception) if no other spaces are available (although please refrain from parking in the specially marked, reserved spaces, which are indicated with signs)
  • Students and staff without permits are welcome to use the Pay and Display facility in any other University Car Park.  This includes Car Park A (the short stay car park near St John’s Main Reception) if no other spaces are available (although please refrain from parking in the specially marked, reserved spaces, which are indicated with signs). When car park M is closed, the Pay and Display rate will be £3 (i.e. the same rate as Car Park M) in all car parks (please disregard the time noted on your pay-and-display ticket – £3 will cover your parking for the full day)

If you are disabled/a blue badge holder, which necessitates you using a particular Car Park on campus, please contact Graham Cozens, Control Room Supervisor, who will be able to work with you to identify a suitable parking space. Graham can be contacted on g.cozens@worc.ac.uk

Please observe the car park closures as delivery lorries will need clear access for manoeuvring.

Thank you for your understanding and support. This event is an invaluable opportunity for local students to find out more about Higher Education, as well as allowing us to showcase the University and its facilities.
