World Mental Health Day – Friday October 8th 2010 Main Reception 10am – 2pm
Friday 8th October 2010 is World Mental Health Day and here at the University of Worcester we are delighted to be supporting this with our own series of events. Details of the programme are as follows:-
10am – 2.30pm Main Reception. There will be a series of promotional events taking place throughout the day. The University’s Mental Health Adviser and members of the Counselling Team will provide information for students and staff and there will be a large selection of information leaflets, and other promotional materials including pens, stress balls, keyrings and post it notes.
There will be an exhibition of original artwork created by artists from Shrub Hill Workshop to celebrate World Mental Health Day 2010.
There will also be a poetry competition. Entries are requested from Students and Staff on the theme of ‘Home’. This will also give recognition to National Poetry Day which takes place on the previous day the 7th October. There will be poetry workshops looking at the theme of home/away with students, as many students will be away from home and familiarising themselves with new surroundings. There will also be a poetry wall, where both students and staff can write their own thoughts and comments on the day. You can access the Rules for the competition and an Entry Form through these links.
During lunchtime students from the Drama Department will recite poetry with the theme’ Home’.
Local poet Jenny Hope will be on campus for the day. She is a member of NAWE/National Association of Writers in Education. She has run poetry workshops for various age groups both in education and within the community. Jenny has a BA Hons in Creative Writing from the University of Birmingham. Her poetry has been published widely and her first collection, Petrolhead was published in 2010 by Oversteps Books, Devon.

THE BIRDS OUTSIDE MY WINDOW
The birds outside my window
They fly around and away
Together
Then circle back
Swirling around in formation
Above the buildings
Outside the land.
I think it’s time to go back
To being a bird
Mania
Flying high
Thinking strong
Winding through my sentences
Spewing tortuous thoughts
Always above the grounding
Ground.
Birds dive down
Don’t hit the ground
And I may stop
Short
But not for long
For I have wings
The mind is me
A melodious symphony.
But I have no flock
No one by my side
Just my thoughts
Swarming my mind
I fly alone.
I shall fly alone.

Hello there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could find
a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having
difficulty finding one? Thanks a lot!
My recent experience with a stinky air conditioner in my car gave me an excuse to dust off my automotive repair skills.
There just might not be enough power to do both effectively.
Suppose you notice a strange noise or that the residential air conditioning tends to
have a hard time going on and off when you tell it to.
