Car Parking on Campus on November 5, 6 and 7

The time for our annual awards ceremonies is fast approaching. There will be two ceremonies taking place each day on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of November.

As usual we will be welcoming hundreds of graduands and their guests each day for what is for them a very important occasion. We can expect even more pressure on car parking than usual because our growth in student numbers means that the ceremonies will be the biggest we have ever held. The construction work on campus means that we are already using temporary car parking on the grass – so we have no extra space.

Just as last year, we are asking all members of staff other than those with disabilities not to bring their cars to campus. Wherever possible colleagues should seek alternative means of travelling to work. If you must come by car please do your best to arrange to car share. Those who can, are encouraged to work from home on one or more of the three graduation days.

With the exception of disabled drivers, and the small number of people who need to bring a vehicle to the campus because the use of the vehicle during the day is essential to the running of the ceremonies, staff (and student) car parking will not be permitted on campus on November 5, 6 and 7 between 8am and 5pm. Anyone who needs to park on campus for reasons associated with the ceremonies should e-mail me with a request for a special permit to do so.

All staff who have no practical alternative but to travel to the campus by car are asked to use the car park available at the Coppertops pub on Oldbury Road. This car park has been rented by the University for permit holders. If you do choose park in the roads surrounding the campus please do ensure that you park sensibly and not in a way which causes an obstruction.

For those parking at Coppertops and the portion of Oldbury Road by Coppertops, there will be a mini-bus service between the Coppertops car park and the University between 8.00 and 10.00 and 16.00-18.00. Attendants will be placed at each of the two gates and will have instructions only to admit vehicles displaying car parking permits associated with the awards ceremonies.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but I am sure you will all appreciate the importance of making sure that everything runs smoothly for the special day for our graduating students and their families and friends.

Thank you for your co-operation.
