FIRSTPOINT’S FIVE POINTS ABOUT YOUR STUDENT’S UNION…

Every Monday, firstpoint publishes five points about a topic related to life at university. This week, we help you discover more about your Students’ Union, including what it can do to support you, and how to get involved…

We also wish our March Graduates congratulations and every success for their graduation ceremonies this week…

POINT ONE:  INTRODUCING THE ‘SU’…

The Student’s Union, or the ‘SU’ as it’s commonly referred to, is an independent charity based on campus, focused on the interests and welfare of all students whilst studying here at the University of Worcester. The SU team aim to represent your views and make sure the student voice is heard by the university! You can also get the most out of your university experience by getting involved in eventsclubscampaigns and more…

Want to boost your employability skills – find out more about volunteering opportunities available, boosting your experience in preparation for graduation.

Student’s Union members are all students registered for a course with us, but students can opt-out of membership if they choose. You’ll find the Student’s Union building on the St Johns’s campus, pop in to meet the team and find out more, or get in touch!.

POINT TWO:  MEET YOUR SU OFFICERS…

A team of full-time Officers are elected to serve and represent the student body each academic year. This includes a Student Union President, a Vice President of Education and a Vice President of Student Activities. They ensure your voice is heard within the university and help you make the most out of your time here.

You can meet your SU Officer team on their webpages here

Elections occur every February, meaning your new team is in place and prepared ready for the summer and new academic year.  An annual election campaign allows you to find out about the students standing for election, their aims and objectives and how to vote! Pop into the SU to find out more or ask how to put your name forward for next academic year if you’d like to get involved!

POINT THREE:   NEED ADVICE AND GUIDANCE…

Did you know that your Student’s Union is available to provide you with help and advice during your studies, up until 3 months after you graduate…

This advice and guidance is free, independent and dedicated to treating each student fairly and with respect.  Academic and Welfare Officers can meet with you to discuss your circumstances, sense check any prepared documents or answer questions and can also attend meetings with a student if required.  Areas of advice can include:

  • Academic Integrity
  • Cost of Living concerns
  • Housing issues (private rental) or contract checking
  • Health and wellbeing concerns

The SU myth busting pages are also a great source of information, breaking down common misconceptions about academic work or life at university.

You can find out more on the SU Help and Advice webpages, or arrange an appointment via the Advice Enquiry form, or visit the Welcome Desk at the SU building on campus during opening hours.
