Every Monday, firstpoint publishes five points about a topic related to life at university. This week, for many of our students, their course is coming to an end, so here are a few thoughts…

POINT ONE: ONE STEP AT A TIME…
What you do now is not necessarily what you will always do. The next few years are a chance to explore different options and ideas.
Why not arrange an appointment with a Careers Adviser to talk through ideas for gaining experience after university and think about those first steps on your ladder…
You might not step into your ideal job straight away. It takes time to develop skills and experiences. Keep going and learn from everything you do.
Our making use of your summer blog includes some great tips and suggestions for gaining relevant experience and finding opportunities.
If you’ve been thinking about taking your studies even further, why not consider a postgraduate course and gain further specialism in your area of interest? Our friendly Admissions Service can provide you with some advice and information about how to apply to a course.

POINT TWO: A POSITIVE APPROACH…
Stress and worries are normal but how we respond can impact on our wellbeing. Be kind to yourself if things go wrong and focus on realistic goals that provide a sense of achievement.
Our Student Wellbeing service can support you to approach any worries or concerns you may have, and our wellbeing pages contain lots of helpful information about self-care and a range of wellbeing support.

POINT THREE: SAVING YOUR WORK…
It’s important to know what access you’ll have to your student account and electronic work once your course ends. There may be research or pieces of work you’ve produced during your degree that you would like to keep a copy of, or you may want to know how to set up a graduate account to make the most of careers advice when you leave.
180 days after finishing your University of Worcester course, your student account will be closed and deleted. You should move any OneDrive files you need to your own personal storage. If you don’t already have personal cloud storage, you can register for a Microsoft Account using a personal email address and set up your own OneDrive personal storge (storage limits will apply). You may also want to subscribe for a personal Microsoft 365 License here.
Once you have completed your course, you can convert your PebblePad e-portfolio into a free alumni account. You must only do this once you have finished your course as this process is not reversable. You can view the steps on how to do this via this PebblePad guide.
If you require further advice or support about this, our university IT department and our Technology Enhanced Learning Team can offer support and advice on what to do next.

POINT FOUR: YOU’RE NOT ALONE…
Keep in touch with friends and course mates but try not to compare yourself to them. We all have our own paths to tread and stories to tell!
Once you leave university, you can find old friends and continue to keep on touch by visiting our Alumni pages, where you’ll also find information on alumni benefits and stay part of the Worcester University community.

POINT FIVE: WE’RE STILL HERE TO HELP…
The Careers and Employability Service can help you for three years after leaving, whether you need to talk through ideas, develop a plan to find work or ask for application advice. Find out more about graduate support by visiting the myCareer portal.
Take a look at the Toolkit for Success – a handy checklist which includes everything you need to know about completing your course and preparing for your next steps and don’t forget you can always ask firstpoint – we’re here to help.
