firstpoint’s five points about Exam Week..

Every Monday, firstpoint publishes five points about a topic related to life at university. This week, we’re looking at exam week…
POINT ONE: PREPARE, PREPARE, PREPARE…

The key to good performance is preparation.

  • Try to have a good night’s sleep – don’t forget to set an alarm for the morning!
  • Leave yourself enough time to have a good breakfast, you’ll need the energy.
  • Check your route into University, make sure the roads or rails are clear and build in some extra time in case you hit any busy traffic, or the trains are cancelled.

Taking these steps puts you in control of your situation and will (hopefully!) alleviate any last-minute stress.

POINT TWO:  REMEMBER YOUR ID…

You will need to provide photographic ID to prove your identity and gain entry to your exam. Acceptable ID includes your student ID card, a driving licence or passport. Double check you have it with you before you leave the house!

If you do arrive and realise that you don’t have ID with you, don’t panic. Come to firstpoint and we can provide you with a replacement student ID card. There is a £10 charge and make sure you leave plenty of time as there may be a queue.  To save time, you can pay for your new card using our online replacement card system

POINT THREE: BE CLEAR ON EQUIPMENT…

For some exams you will be permitted to take in additional equipment, such as a calculator or a specific textbook. Check these details in advance as there are penalties for taking prohibited items into your exam.

If you need to bring personal belongings with you to University, we recommend checking out the lockers. Lockers are located in the upper level of the Peirson Study and Guidance Centre. You will need your student ID card to access them, and you can keep your things in them for the day.

POINT FOUR: CHECK YOUR TIMETABLE…

Your exam timetable is made available to you on your SOLE page. Check the timetable so that you are sure what time your exam is due to start. We would recommend that you arrive 15-30 minutes before your exam begins.

There is further information on what you should do if you are running late, or are unwell, on your exam day on the Registry Services Exam pages.

If you find you have any clashes with exams scheduled, you can contact our Exams Team by email, just ask firstpoint for support and further details.

POINT FIVE: FIND YOUR WAY…

You might find it helpful to visit the room where the exam is taking place, so you are familiar with the location. No need to add last minute stress by running around campus trying to find the right room!

If you are not sure how to find your way, remember you can use the Accessable Guides and Campus Locations page or if you have any concerns or worries, come and have a chat with us at firstpoint, we’re here to help.

You can find more information on exams on the Registry Services Exams FAQ pages.
