firstpoint’s five points about support over the summer…

Every Monday, firstpoint publishes five points about a topic related to life at university. This week, although teaching has finished, that doesn’t mean that support is no longer available…
POINT ONE: FIRSTPOINT ARE HERE ALL SUMMER…

firstpoint continues to be open throughout the summer, from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday (apart from Bank Holidays).  You can contact us by telephone 01905 542551, by email: firstpoint@worc.ac.uk  or pop in to see us on the St John’s Campus. Come and speak to us if you want to register your DBS certificate, need a replacement ID card, or have any other questions.

If you’re not sure, come and ask!  You can find out more about how we can help by looking at our webpages.

POINT TWO: MONEY ADVICE…

The Money Advisers also continue to run their service throughout the summer.  Now might be a good opportunity to get some extra guidance about budgeting or ask for help reapplying for Student Finance.  If you’re unexpectedly having to re-take a module, you may wish to speak with an adviser about your funding situation.

Contact firstpoint to book an appointment.

POINT THREE: ACADEMIC WRITING SUPPORT…

If you want advice on how to improve your use of academic English in your essay or presentation, you can meet with a Language Centre tutor, who will look at your draft assignment or answer questions.

Outside of term-time, you can arrange for academic writing support by contacting the team directly by email: languagecentre@worc.ac.uk.

POINT FOUR: MODULE AND COURSE ADVICE…

The Programme Advisers help with the selection of modules, changing subjects or pathways.  If you are thinking about changing your course, altering your module choices, or maybe swapping from full-time to part-time study, arrange to speak with a Programme Adviser to make sure you have all the information you need.

They are available by telephone on 01905 542727 between 10am – 3pm, Monday to Friday, (11am – 3pm Tuesdays).

You’ll also find a Module Change Request or a Course Change Request on your SOLE page, under the ‘Course Information’ tab (deadlines apply).

POINT FIVE: LIBRARY SERVICES AND THE HIVE…

Don’t forget to access the award-winning Hive, a joint university and public library.  The Hive is no ordinary library with a quarter of a million books, 12 miles of archive collections and a regular range of events, lectures, exhibitions and performances. You’ll also find study areas with access to printers, wifi and laptop points

For one-to-one, online support with using library resources, book an online appointment with a Liaison Librarian.  Your online appointment can last for up to 30 minutes and takes place on MS Teams.  You will be sent a link via email, so please make sure you enter your email address correctly when booking.  If you need an in-person appointment, please contact the Liaison Librarians for your subject directly, or for urgent help, email askalibrarian or try their live chat.

The Hive is open 8.30am-10pm every day, including Sundays, but excluding Bank Holidays.
