Many thanks to all members of the University for their calm and co-operation during last Friday’s security alert.
As you may know, after extensive professional investigation the suspicious device discovered by the West Mercia Police was pronounced entirely safe. Everyone is safe and well and the campus has been fully open and functioning as usual since Friday evening.
You may also have read that a student at the University is currently in custody in the United States on suspicion of attempting to purchase a firearm using a false identity, together with related matters. This student was a resident on campus in Wyvern Hall. The device found on Friday was discovered during the course of the police investigation. There is no suspicion that any other individual was involved. Particular thanks to those students resident in Wyvern who endured the inconvenience of having to evacuate their rooms with good humour and cheerfulness.
The University is co-operating closely on this matter with the West Mercia Police who are, in turn, working with their colleagues in the United States. Other than assuring all members of the University of Worcester, friends, relatives, campus visitors and members of the public that the University campus is entirely safe, the University will be making no further statement as this is now a police matter.
All best wishes
Yours sincerely
David
